A)  GREEN aspects of the Early Choices® seat.

1. By being a Hybrid product, our seats use far less plastic material than two separate products (of equal quality). Especially true of the potty type seats. Less is more.

2. The high quality of our seat keeps it out of a landfill, and on a toilet for much longer.  Brass threads in hinge base and in the hold down nuts prevent corrosion and stripped threads. And while the lid is strong enough to stand on without deflection, for safety we don't recommend trying it. This is a permanent seat for your house and whole family. Tough and durable. And we stand behind it with a Guarantee.

3. Our seat helps kids get out of diapers much sooner than with other methods of toilet training, and this mean millions of tons less diapers in the landfills.  Kids can use from 3 - 6 diapers a day (toilet training ages vary also). Less diapers, less wipes, less diaper cream, less skin irrigations, less washing clothes (and/or cloth diapers). It all adds up. Save even two weeks of diapers and your seat is paid for. Save a few months or even a year, and now you really have something.  More CASH in your pocket.

4. All our materials (including packaging) are 100% re-cyclable. Nice. And our packaging is designed to be relatively easy to get into, and is re-sealable at the retail level.  Packaging is also clear and durable, allowing complete visibililty without opening, and is excellent protection for our seat. This means less product spoilage and less waste overall.

B)  Some Diapering Facts and Figures

To be perfectly honest, these numbers completely blew us away.  We had no idea of the IMPACT that diapering a child has on the environment collectively, regardless of whether diaposable or cloth diapers are used.  Our seat can greatly REDUCE diapering needs for children everywhere, and in our books, that is worthwhile to both your pocketbook as well as landfills everywhere.

  • Disposable diapers used in ONE year (USA)                                       18 Billion
  • Weight of ONE year of disposable diapers (USA)             7.2 Billion lbs (3.2B Kg)
  • Laid end to end these diapers would circle the earth                          90 Times
  • Years to decompose one diaper (estimated)                                    500 Years
  • Trees used to diaper one child for two years                                     20 Trees
  • If cloth diapers are used, the energy used is nearly TWICE that of disposables - unless hot water is never used, diapers are 'line-dried' year round, and diapers are used for at least two children. (UK study)
  • Many children are now 4 years old and not toilet trained - largely attributeable to the comfort of modern 'high-tech' disposable diapers - they are just far TOO comfortable.
  • Costs to diaper a child vary from $2600 - $5300 on average, with the most expensive phase being the longest (larger more expensive diapers).

Summary

The bottom line is that no matter what method you choose, there is no free lunch, and diapering children generates HUGE costs and an equally HUGE environmental impact.  The only real solution is to REDUCE the diapers required.  Our seat can do this, expecially when installed early in the diapering process, not to mention the FREEDOM of being diaper-free months sooner.
